Guide to Grint: Rupert pursues new projects

While the “Ron” actor seemed to take a break from fame compared to the busy schedules of his costars, he has a lot of exciting ventures in the works.

Check out this new pic of Rupert Grint as Cheetah Chrome for CBGB!

Also starring Ashley Greene as Lisa Kristal, the flick tells the story of Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) and his New York club from its conceit as a venue for Country, Bluegrass and Blues (CBGB) to what it ultimately became: the birthplace of underground rock ‘n roll and punk.

When Kristal had difficulty booking country bands in his club on the Bowery he opened his doors to other kinds of rock music. Kristal had one demand of the acts he booked; they could only play original music. No top 40s, no covers. It was the credo he lived by, support the artist at whatever the cost.

CBGB is set to open later this year.

This little-known film will star not one, but two Harry Potter actors!

ComingSoon.net has a first look at a clip from Magnolia Pictures’ Into the White, the war drama starring Rupert Grint (“Harry Potter” films), David Kross, Stig Henrik Hoff, Florian Lukas and Lachlan Nieboer.

At the beginning of World War II, a hostile chance encounter in the skies above the harsh Norwegian wilderness leaves two aircraft—one British, one German—shot down in a remote and isolated region. By strange coincidence, the crews seek shelter in the same cabin. They must battle to survive the brutal winter in order to get back to the war—and to fighting one another. Although war has made them enemies, as the days go by, animosity proves hard to maintain. Mutual need leads to unlikely friendships, and the rules of war must be put aside.

Into the White is now available On Demand and in theaters.

You can check out more clips on YouTube.

Finally, although Grint’s work with Ed Sheeran on Ed’s “Lego House” video is old news, designer Dylan Woodley has created a new version, with actual Legos, that mirrors the original.

‘A Very Potter Senior Year’ to be released by Starkid

Starkid fandom, prepare yourselves. After months of agonizing over whether Starkid would release the last installment of the “A Very Potter Musical” series, a decision has been reached.

A Very Potter Senior Year is the third and final of the Harry Potter parody shows which first brought the group attention when they were students at the University of Michigan. The formation of their company, Team StarKid, came after the huge and unexpected response to their work when their YouTube videos went viral. The name “StarKid” is a joke from that firstVery Potter show, which hit the web in June 2009.

Less than six months after the release of A Very Potter Sequel, the group’s composer – and their Harry – was one of a million struggling actor/musicians in Los Angeles. He got a haircut, landed a TV guest spot, sang a Katy Perry song to another boy, and his star rose astronomically overnight. But in between movies and Broadway and world tours, Team StarKid and their fans wanted Darren Criss back for a few minutes – just long enough to put together “the Threequel” – the final Potter show that was long known to be finished, ready and waiting to be staged as soon as the circumstances would allow it.

Earlier this year, Team StarKid announced that they would finally be able to perform a version of A Very Potter Senior Year – that because they weren’t sure if they could ever run it as a full show in the way they’ve run more recent releases, they would bring the cast (including Darren) to the LeakyCon convention this past August, and give the audience a staged reading of the script. The final product was five hours long after only 36 hours rehearsal with the full cast. It was completely uncut, full of goofs, and had never been run in order before. It contained songs, staging, choreography, and over 70 costumes worn by the 30+ members involved – Team StarKid brought in nearly every single person who had ever been in a StarKid show to take part in Senior Year.

The audience of 4,000 – who had possibly been expecting a bunch of people sitting in a row of chairs, reading lines back and forth – ate the whole thing up. The rest of the fandom wept and pulled at their hair, especially when rumors circulated that Team StarKid’s creative team, who do seem to pride themselves on delivering technical perfection even if the content is silly, may not want to release the show online due to the one-off LeakyCon taping being unmanageable from an editing perspective. Too many mistakes. It won’t make sense. It’s too long.

So they’re releasing everything. Later this month, Team StarKid will release the script and the music for A Very Potter Senior Year, and then allow fans some time to get to know it, and then, in early 2013, they will put up the entire live video of the staged reading. The script and soundtrack – featuring nine new songs written by AJ Holmes, Clark Baxtresser and Pierce Siebers – will be made available on December 15 through The Ann Arbor T-shirt Company.

In case fans weren’t thrilled enough, the announcement video then features over a minute of footage from the reading. With StarKid’s usual “no cameras, no spoilers” policy in place, this is the first Senior Year content of any substance to have been posted – snippets of songs, previewing new characters (Lockhart! McGonagall! Hagrid! Young Tom Riddle!) and the return of all the old gang, including our Harry, of course.

I gotta get back to Hogwarts…

J.K. Rowling gives enlightening interview with Charlie Rose

Throughout her US promotion of The Casual Vacancy, J.K. Rowling has given a lot of interviews. One of the compelling factors in this one is the light she sheds on the film productions of Harry Potter.

Charlie Rose: When you’re writing, do you see it like a movie? I assume, after Harry Potter, you saw the character as exactly the movie character for Harry Potter.
JK Rowling:
Interestingly no, I didn’t – with one exception. This is what’s interesting to me. I never saw Dan or Rupert or Emma as … no. Because I’d lived with them so long, I saw my characters in my head. There was one exception. I’ve said this before. Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood, I saw her. I’m not saying the others weren’t perfect pieces of casting, because I adore those people, but she got in my head. I even heard her voice when I was writing Luna.

CR: How did Harry differ from the actor? How did the picture you had in your head differ from the picture we see on the screen?
JKR:
Dan, Rupert and Emma – and they know, I’ve said this to them – they’re much better looking than the kids I saw in my head

CR: Really?
JKR:
Yeah, definitely. Emma is beautiful, staggeringly beautiful. In the book, Hermione is a plain Jane, although she sorts herself out a little bit, and she gets a little more styled as she gets older. I am so glad they cast her as Hermione. Emma is a very intelligent girl, who played intelligent beautifully. Even though she’s stunningly beautiful – Emma is not at all about her looks. That’s who Emma is, and that shown through in her portrayal of Hermione. That’s why I was thrilled they cast her because she is such a smart, bright girl. I needed my Hermione to be that kind of person.

CR: Did the movies teach you anything about your characters? Did you see anything about your characters that might have added to their complexity? Because actors can take lines and their job is to to enhance them.
JKR:
Yeah definitely, and make them their own. Gary Oldman was fantastic as Sirius. He was amazing. He gave Sirius something that was in my mind for Sirius, but on screen I really saw it – that slight edge of insanity, of being imbalanced, from someone that’d been locked up for a long time. He just played that.

CR: When you’re writing this with the multiple characters you have, is finding somebody that’s a bit crazed thrilling? Because you can do so many things with a bad person.
JKR:
You’ve got to reign it in though. You’ve got to just pitch it right because otherwise it becomes like a cardboard and paste caricature. You’ve still got to find the center of the crazy person. Bellatrix, in the books, is probably the most out of control, insane person in the books. She’s vicious. Even more than Voldemort, who has a control about him. But that was how I saw her. There was a lack of boundaries.

The longer video also includes information from the author about The Casual Vacancy.
