For those of us who have been waiting ages for more Pottermore updates, we finally have more chapters to explore.
We are excited to announce that the next instalment of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is now ready to explore. In this instalment you will witness a re-enactment of the beheading of Nearly Headless Nick, learn about the ancient wizarding game of Gobstones, pick up sweets in Honeydukes and see the ‘most haunted dwelling in Britain’ – the Shrieking Shack.
For the first time, some of the new Moments have been released with accompanying audio book snippets for our UK, US and German users. We have also introduced a new spoiler alert feature on selected exclusive entries from J.K. Rowling. If you are about to read anything that may give away storylines or information from beyond that particular Moment on Pottermore.com, an alert will appear. You then have the choice to continue reading or to navigate away and come back at a later time so as not to spoil your own journey through the stories. You can disable the spoiler warning any time it appears and manage your spoiler settings in Account Settings.
For those of you who took part in our Teaser Questions, we are keeping the answers a secret for a few more days. We wanted to give you time to explore the new Moments and look or listen out for the answers yourselves. Share your discoveries on our Facebook page if you have an account; or on Twitter using the hashtag#pmteasers.
What Pottermore moment are you looking forward to the most?
Some Potterheads may have been disappointed that Pottermore didn’t include more personalized features. Where are our customisable avatars? Why can’t I walk around Diagon Alley and ride the Hogwarts Express? they might have asked. In case you were one of those people, I’ve got news for you.
We have an exciting announcement about a new way to experience Pottermore, and we wanted you to be amongst the first to know that from April 2013 Pottermore will be available on PlayStation Home.
Working closely with Sony, we’ve brought to life a selection of beautifully illustrated Moments from Pottermore.com for users to explore in 3D for the first time with a customisable avatar.
PlayStation Home is the free 3D gaming community for Sony’s PlayStation 3, where gamers play and socialise with their friends around the world and our latest innovation enables users to actually step inside Diagon Alley™ and the Hogwarts™ Express, as well as discover four exclusive new mini-games.
As a Pottermore.com user, you can also link your account with your PSN ID to gain access to extra content and spaces.
Discover some of the secrets and techniques behind Book of Spells, the first title for PlayStation’s new Wonderbook, and the latest initiative to result from Sony’s partnership with Pottermore.
Meticulously researched, and featuring new writing from J.K. Rowling, Book of Spells brings Miranda Goshawk’s 200-year-old spell book to life, and gives you the chance to master powerful spells as well as read about some of the histories behind them.
On Friday, we asked you to choose the Moment that you would like revealed in our sneak peek of the upcoming chapters of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Your votes are in and your chosen Moment is Hagrid’s First Lesson:
In this Moment, Harry, Hermione, Ron and their classmates attend Hagrid’s first Care of Magical Creatures class and encounter the impressive Hippogriffs in their paddock.
We can now officially confirm that you’ll be able to explore this Moment in full for yourself from this Thursday, 20th December, when the first chapters of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban will be released on Pottermore.com.
Please make sure that you’ve collected all the items on your second-year shopping list in order to progress to the third book and explore these first chapters on Pottermore.com.
There are two exciting developments hitting Pottermore. First, something strange brewing in the Divination classroom, and second, a magical winter wonderland in Diagon Alley.
We want to hear your predictions and what you think they mean for your future.
Share your predictions with the Pottermore community and get the conversations going in the Great Hall and your common room or share them with us on Facebook and Twitter. We’ll retweet our favourite predictions throughout the week and share a selection here on the Insider too.
Those at the Pottermore team have so far seen and predicted the following:
‘I think it looks like a camel. I think that means I’m going to go on holiday somewhere sandy. And ride a camel.’ ‘A dog’s head – Puppy for Christmas!’ ‘It looks like an egg yolk in the bottom of a cup. No comment.’ ‘It’s a four-legged chicken. Maybe I’m seeing my Sunday roast dinner…’
Tell us what you see in the tea leaves….
What do you see? From a distance I see Hagrid standing in the middle of a group of spiders on the left and a knight riding a unicorn on the right… Hm…
Here’s what will greet you every time you shop in Diagon Alley! Pretty, isn’t it?
With technological progress comes the new way to give and receive books- through the internet.
Just in time for the Holiday shopping season, the Pottermore Shop has launched a gifting feature so you can buy your loved ones digital copies of the Harry Potter books and present them as gifts.
“Choose the gift you’d like to treat someone to,” Pottermore explains, “Then select exactly when you want them to receive it. Or if they’re the impatient sort, they can have their story straight away. They will even be able to download their gift up to eight times to different devices.”
Just earlier this week the Pottermore Shop launched the eBook version of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. All proceeds from the purchase of the book, as explained by author J.K. Rowling in a video announcement, will go to The Lumos Foundation.
Would you prefer to have a physical copy of the books, or do you think this e-gifting is a great new idea?
The crowning of the House Cup on Pottermore has occurred again! The last victors were Slytherin, but this time around, Gryffindor took the lead.
It’s been a spirited competition, with much brewing and duelling but we would like to congratulate Gryffindor as the victor of the Pottermore House Cup for November, 2012.
Commiserations to Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but your chance to make the Pottermore House Cup yours will come again – the house points have already been reset for the next contest in the Great Hall.
As a reward for winning the Pottermore House Cup, Gryffindor will be able to download beautiful artwork of their common room as wallpapers and screensavers for their electronic devices.
Members of Gryffindor house, keep an eye out on your owl notifications for further details when these become available, they should be arriving soon.
Until the next Pottermore House Cup, we wish everyone good luck and keep up the great work on your potions and spells.
Congratulations to all for racking up impressive numbers of house points!
