Harry Potter ‘Pez’ dispensers on the horizon

The popular collectible candy holders will soon be featuring our favorite Potter characters.

“I’ll give you one for 2015,” speaking about which new Pez dispensers are on the horizon. “It’s taken me about five years to get it. And that’s Harry Potter.”  He didn’t detail what it would look like only that “JK Rowling definitely will be involved.”

It typically takes about a year and a half and lots of planning to bring the 6.5 inch dispensers to life. From Mickey Mouse to Santa Claus and Darth Vader in between, the list of larger-than-life characters immortalized by the company is long.

Vittoria says they’ve already begun designing the Harry Potter dispensers.  Like other limited-edition sets, all 250,000 of the dispensers designed like the boy wizard will be numbered.

Harry Potter Annotated Edition Up For Auction By J.K. Rowling

Have you ever wondered what goes through an author’s mind while they write a book? You can now find out J.K. Rowling’s thoughts while she was writing “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”.

The book contains Rowling’s handwritten thoughts and commentary about the book and the film adaptation, as well as 22 hand-drawn illustrations including one of a sleeping baby Harry and another of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore

“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” was first published in 1997, and is the rarest of the series as only 500 copies were printed.

The book is one of many being put up for the English PEN Organization charity auction. The auction, to be held at Sotheby’s, is expected even more than another 1st edition of the book that sold in October 2007 for over 19,700 pounds ($29,878 USD).

Thanks to Piya Sinha-Roy at Reuters.com for alerting us of the auction! What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below!

Rupert’s CBS sitcom rejected! Here’s the scoop:

Rupert Grint, famed for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movie franchise, announced a few months ago that he was to star in a one-camera sitcom called Super Clyde, to air on CBS. Grint was to play an mild-mannered fast-food worker that decides that he wants to become a superhero.

Entertainment Weekly gave us a few pointers on why it should have worked, and why it didn’t.

Why it SHOULD have worked:

Fun idea, and the Harry Potter star seems like a natural for a TV sitcom.

Why it DIDN’T work:

CBS was high on Grint, and still is. But the concept was deemed off-brand for the network and the net’s other comedies came in strong. Plus, successful comedy blocks are about creating flow, and there was also nothing compatible that CBS had to pair it with.

What do you think? Would you have watched Super Clyde? Tell us in the comments below!

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for the heads up!

Daniel Radcliffe can’t shake Potter tag

Daniel Radcliffe can’t shake Potter tag

Daniel Radcliffe can’t get rid of the Harry Potter label but thinks he is slowly being recognised for his wider body of work.

The 23-year-old star doesn’t think he’ll ever be able to shed the association with the Boy Who Lived after playing the teenage wizard for eight movies, but is hoping people will eventually start recognising him as an actor in his own right.

The ‘Woman in Black’ actor sighed: ”I do think it will be another few years before we see an article that won’t mention Potter. I’m not sure that will happen.

”The goal isn’t to stop Harry Potter being written about; that’s unachievable. The goal is to make myself an actor rather than just one character. I think that’s starting to happen.”

Daniel is so self-critical he can only bring himself to watch the fifth and eighth films in the magical franchise, although he is starting to become less hard on himself.

He told Empire magazine: ”I think it’s important to be your own toughest critic because that way you’ll always be driven to get better.

”But it’s important to temper that with being able to give yourself credit for something you’re pleased with.

”I was very bad at that before. I was unable to see anything good, but now I’m starting to.”

Potter fan proposes with Golden Snitch

A lot of us have dreamed of Harry Potter-themed romances. This Potterhead’s dream came true.

Rachel Allison first met Jaquie Richards in college. Their friendship blossomed into love. As their affection for each other grew, so did a mutual passion for the “Harry Potter” series. When Allison decided it was time to propose, she knew a magic touch was called for.

Allison used CustomMade to find artists to create both a detailed Quidditch set and an engagement ring. CustomMade is sort of like a cross between Etsy and Match.com. It connects customers with artisans who can make their desired projects come true.

The Quidditch set came in a detailed box with Bludgers, a Quaffle, a Beater’s Bat, and the Golden Snitch inside. The engagement ring was then hidden inside the Golden Snitch.

The idea worked like a charm spell. Allison popped the question in Potter style and Richards said yes. There was no battle scene required, Voldemort didn’t show up, and everyone survived the epic adventure, which is more than can be said for the actual “Harry Potter” series.
