Is There a Ninth Harry Potter Film in the Works?

According to The Sun, the Harry Potter cast is reuniting to make a mini-movie to be shown exclusively at Harry Potter theme parks.

Bellatrix

The eighth big-screen movie based on JK Rowling’s books had been billed as the final one.
But Helena Bonham Carter, 46, is among cast members who have been filming scenes at the Potter studios in Hertfordshire — reprising her role as witch Bellatrix Lestrange.

A source confirmed last night: “The cast have really enjoyed getting back together — they are so tight-knit.”

The new “mini movie” will go on show at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction in Florida and two new Hogwarts theme parks under construction.

There isn’t much much to go on yet, but if this is really happening how does it make you feel?

McKayla is not impressed by Harry Potter

As you probably know, the meme of Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney being indifferent is everywhere.  Here we see that McKayla is not impressed with Harry Potter or his patronus charm.

There is actually a tumblr page out there with a plethora of these memes, it’s worth a look if you enjoy these!

Harry Potter tops NPR’s best ever teen books list!

In NPR’s quest to find the top 100 YA books ever, Harry Potter was voted number 1! This may not come as a huge surprise, but it’s still fantastic!  See story from NPR below!

It’s almost a cliche at this point to say that teen fiction isn’t just for teens anymore. Just last year, the Association of American Publishers ranked Children’s/Young Adult books as the single fastest-growing publishing category.

Which is why we were only a little surprised to see the tremendous response that came in for this summer’s Best-Ever Teen Fiction poll. A whopping 75,220 of you voted for your favorite young adult novels, blasting past the total for last year’s science fiction and fantasy poll at, dare we say it, warp speed.

And now, the final results are in. While it’s no surprise to see Harry Potter and the Hunger Games trilogy on top, this year’s list also highlights some writers we weren’t as familiar with. For example, John Green, author of the 2012 hit The Fault in Our Stars, appears five times in the top 100.

Selecting a manageable voting roster from among the more than 1,200 nominations that came in from readers wasn’t easy, and we were happy to be able to rely on such an experienced panel of judges. But deciding what does and doesn’t count as a young-adult novel isn’t an exact science. If you’re surprised not to see some of your favorite books among the winners, you might want to look at this blog post, which describes the thinking behind the tough calls.

J.K. Rowling building Hogwarts inspired tree house for her children

Update! According to Scotsman, J. K. Rowling has won planning permission to build the tree houses.

Look what J.K. Rowling is having built for her children!  This is so incredibly awesome, I need to figure out how I can get someone to build one for me!

When the creator of Harry Potter decides to build an adventure playground for her children, you expect something magical.
But even by JK Rowling’s standards the 40ft high, two-storey tree houses planned for the back garden of her Edinburgh mansion are something spectacular.
The Hogwarts-style towers – estimated to cost around £150,000 – are so big that they need planning permission.

Each wooden tree house is to be built on stilts and boasts balconies, carvings and turrets that wouldn’t look out of place in a Potter adventure.
The towers are linked by a rope bridge and can be approached by a secret tunnel hidden underneath a raised wooden walkway.
Plans lodged with the City of Edinburgh Council reveal the houses are intended for Miss Rowling’s two youngest children David, nine, and his sister Mackenzie, seven.

According to the drawings ‘David’s Tree House’ is closest to the secret tunnel and has a specially designed trap door and fireman’s pole escape into the garden
Meanwhile ‘Kenzie’s Tree House’ has its own spiral staircase and a stainless steel playground slide leading to a double set of swings.
A wooden walkway connected to the giant structure leads to a giant trampoline deck that is shielded from public view by a row of extra tall conifers.

There is nothing not cool about this, right?

Rupert Grint carries Olympic torch

How cool is this?!  Rupert Grint participated in the Olympic torch relay in London, which is something I’m sure a lot of us would love to take part in.  We’re so happy that he was able to have this experience!  Way to go, Rupert!

Rupert Grint — who played Ron in the famous Harry Potter films — lent a touch of Hogwarts magic to the Olympic torch relay Wednesday by carrying the flame for a leg in northwest London.

Grint, known for his shock of red hair and for being Harry’s faithful friend, started his turn at Middlesex University and was mobbed as he finished his run.

The 23-year-old actor said that he had not known what to expect, as running was “kind of a new thing” for him.
“I don’t usually run for anything, but it was all downhill so I was OK,” he said. “It was all a bit of a blur. I’m just so proud to be a part of it.”

Some 8,000 people have taken part in the 70-day, 8,000-mile (12,900-kilometer) Olympic torch relay that crossed the length of the U.K. and even ventured into Ireland. The relay ends Friday when the last torchbearer lights the cauldron at the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium, marking the official start of the London games.
