Rowling’s annotated Philosopher’s Stone sells for 200 grand

UPDATE: An anonymous bidder has won the Harry Potter author’s rare first edition!

A rare first edition of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” took a massive price at charity auction in aid of the English Pen writers’ association in London on May 21. Featuring J.K. Rowling’s handwritten notes as well as original illustrations, the 1997 book was sold to an anonymous bidder, who bid for it over the telephone, for $228,000.

The “Harry Potter” book appeared along with books from other notable names at the auction hosted by Sotheby’s. Among them were a copy of “Life of Pi“, which got $3,900 and has author Yann Martel’s notes on why the chapters were switched from the original Canadian edition, and a first edition of Margaret Atwood’s “The Blind Assassin”, which fetched $5,460.

“This is a triumphant conclusion to a wonderful project, which has involved the hard work and good will of so many people,” said Rick Gekoski, who curated the collection of annotated first editions for the sale. “I am sure that the buyers of the individual books will be thrilled with their purchases.”

Evanna Lynch discusses new film, ‘G.B.F’

The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Film Synopsis: The bitter fight for supremacy between the three most popular girls at North Gateway High takes an unexpected turn when their classmate, Tanner, is outed and becomes the school’s first openly gay student. The trio races to bag the big trend in fashion accessories, the Gay Best Friend, while Tanner must decide whether his skyrocketing popularity is more important than the friendships he is leaving behind.

Q: Can you tell us about your character?

Evanna Lynch: Yes, her name is McKenzie Price and she is essentially the villain! In the film it’s centered around…Michael’s character who comes out. He’s outed and a lot of the girls, there’s this craze about him, they want him as their G.B.F, whereas my character is extremely intolerant of gay people and she just thinks it’s a sin and all that kind of stuff. I don’t agree with anything she’s saying, but there are people out there who do and that is their belief and this is this girl, so she tries to shut down the prom and stage an anti-gay prom and all that kind of thing and trying to ruin everyone’s fun.

Q: What attracted you to this film?

Evanna Lynch: It was just so different from “Potter” and my character Luna. It was different playing a character where all her beliefs and all her morals, I completely disapproved of and the challenge is to try and empathize with that person, present them as a realistic person and not a caricature. I don’t know I still feel as though she does come off as kind of a caricature, but it was a challenge and all the other auditions I read for I’m usually the nice girl, I think there’s probably a danger of being type-casted, so I guess I was just trying it out. I still prefer being the nice girl!

Q: What was the highlight of working on “G.B.F.”?

Evanna Lynch: Well this is my first project in the States, so it was nice meeting the cast and crew out here and when I first got to L.A., I didn’t know many people, so it was nice finding some friends where I’m living at the moment and seeing how the industry works out here you know very similar process.

Q: What what is like working on an independent film versus a big studio film like “Harry Potter.”

Evanna Lynch: I guess there was more freedom, there was more responsibility, I had to actually drive myself to work this time, which was fun, it made me feel like an adult and yeah I just got to play a lot…it felt like you were playing a lot of the time.

Guide to Grint: Rupert pursues new projects

While the “Ron” actor seemed to take a break from fame compared to the busy schedules of his costars, he has a lot of exciting ventures in the works.

Check out this new pic of Rupert Grint as Cheetah Chrome for CBGB!

Also starring Ashley Greene as Lisa Kristal, the flick tells the story of Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman) and his New York club from its conceit as a venue for Country, Bluegrass and Blues (CBGB) to what it ultimately became: the birthplace of underground rock ‘n roll and punk.

When Kristal had difficulty booking country bands in his club on the Bowery he opened his doors to other kinds of rock music. Kristal had one demand of the acts he booked; they could only play original music. No top 40s, no covers. It was the credo he lived by, support the artist at whatever the cost.

CBGB is set to open later this year.

This little-known film will star not one, but two Harry Potter actors!

ComingSoon.net has a first look at a clip from Magnolia Pictures’ Into the White, the war drama starring Rupert Grint (“Harry Potter” films), David Kross, Stig Henrik Hoff, Florian Lukas and Lachlan Nieboer.

At the beginning of World War II, a hostile chance encounter in the skies above the harsh Norwegian wilderness leaves two aircraft—one British, one German—shot down in a remote and isolated region. By strange coincidence, the crews seek shelter in the same cabin. They must battle to survive the brutal winter in order to get back to the war—and to fighting one another. Although war has made them enemies, as the days go by, animosity proves hard to maintain. Mutual need leads to unlikely friendships, and the rules of war must be put aside.

Into the White is now available On Demand and in theaters.

Finally, although Grint’s work with Ed Sheeran on Ed’s “Lego House” video is old news, designer Dylan Woodley has created a new version, with actual Legos, that mirrors the original.
