Fifty Shades of Grey: Does it deserve to outsell Harry Potter?

Relax, relax; It’s only on Amazon UK. However, it is shocking news.

According to a recent E! post,

In fact, E.L. James‘ Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has outsold J.K. Rowling‘s seven-book Harry Potter series on Amazon U.K., per a report on The Verge

But lest you think America has similarly moved on from the boy wizard to adult fiction, Fifty Shades is topping Amazon’s U.S. bestseller chart in print and Kindle sales, but it’s yet to break taboos records the way it has across the pond.

What do you think? Does Fifty Shades of Grey merit such an outstanding achievement?

  1. My cousin said they whole thing is just people doing stuff that is not appropriate for all ages. Harry Potter is for all ages.

  2. In my opinion both series’ have their merits and downfall, I enjoy both series’ and think that both are enjoyable. Although Fifty Shades is one of those books you find yourself blushing at and perhaps feeling a little flustered the storyline itself shares a few of the same morals as the Harry potter books.

  3. Sorry to those who ‘worships’ Fifty Shades of Grey.. but I really don’t think the story deserves to outsell the Harry Potter Series.. FSG has some inappropriate parts while HP has none.. the furthest HP has gone is the characters’ snogging, there was no groping, the book/story is for all ages. The actors’ depiction of the kissing scenes may be considered intense, but still. This is just my opinion so congratulations to FSG & EL James for outselling HP & J.K. Rowling in Amazon. I”m a Potterhead but I like FSG too. No offence meant people!!
